Otherwise, the Omen X 2S is an awesome companion for anyone that wants high-speed gaming in a machine that looks great, feels great, and has enough power to stand up to AAA games for years to come. It’s pricey at $2,500—and with gaming laptops you’re stuck with this GPU until you buy a whole other machine—but this shouldn’t be a laptop you’re itching to replace in a year or two.

HP's unique Omen X 2S has a 15.6-inch main screen and a 6-inch adjunct screen for in-game communications, social-media peeks, and more. A sturdy build, Nvidia G-Sync support, hushed fans, and surprising pricing make it a great pick for a top-line gaming laptop.

Overall, if you've got the budget, the HP Omen X 2S exudes style and backs it up with outstanding performance. HP engineers did a remarkable job cramming so much performance and dual displays into a chassis that's under an inch thin and weighs under 5.5lbs. There's also a lot of attention to the hidden details, like the Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut thermal compound and SSD thermal pad, that we appreciate. Regardless of our opinion of the second screen implementation, this is an excellent gaming notebook that delivers on multiple fronts.

HP took power and style into consideration with the Omen X 2S, which is great, but this machine still has a few key flaws. Its second display is frustrating to use properly, the speakers sound distorted, and the display is too dull for the price.

The Omen X 2S has three primary distinguishing features: a 6-inch 1080p touchscreen above the keyboard and a new Performance mode option that optimizes power allocation to the CPU and GPU based on the demands of the game (or whatever software you're running). The third? It's just an all-around likable enthusiast gaming laptop.

Based on the concepts we're seeing from ASUS and Intel, I'm convinced the future of laptops is dual-screened. We've finally reached the point where juggling multiple displays on your laptop could actually make you more productive. But as usual, it's not a good idea to jump into the first wave of any new technology. The Omen X 2S is an admirable effort from HP, but it feels like the company is still trying to get the hang of things. There's clearly room to fit in a larger and wider display -- maybe next year HP can actually figure out how to make that happen.

HP Omen X 2S 15-dg0075cl
What I feared to happen is becoming a reality. Laptops with dual screens. At first, the layout of the base unit started to change with Acer models. Then, we saw Asus to come up with a small screen instead of a touchpad. Then, I was hoping this trend to die, but Asus took it one step further and came back with Zenbook Duo models which have two screens. One is the regular one and the other is with a strange resolution above the keyboard. I am not gonna lie, I was hoping no one else would pick this up. But HP… They are quick to pick an untested trend. At least unlike Asus, they first want to experiment with something small. Something similar to earlier Asus Zenbook Duo models. With early Duo models, the second screen was thought to be a kind of replacement for the touchpad. As the Zenbook series are mostly targeted at business users, the device had to stay compact. With the Omen X 2S models, there is also a touchpad, with an odd placement. As you might easily understand, I am not a big fan of dual screens; especially in gaming laptops. Maybe for business devices, it makes a little sense due to productivity. With gaming devices, all I can see is that maybe you can follow your conversations from the screen above the keyboard. Let’s say you are a streamer and you want to follow your chat, there you go, now you have a second screen. Even though, most of the streamers have multiple screens, maybe this can happen, I don’t know. One thing is for sure, this addition increases the overall pricing of the devices. The Omen X 2S models are between 2.000 to 4.000 USD. On average, I can say the extra screen is adding up about 500 USD. Is it worth the 500 USD? Well, that will be your decision. Other than that, the Omen X 2S is a future proof model with latest hardware and connection possibilities. This 15-inch model is weighing around 2.4 kg without the charger, so it can be considered mobile. But, the RTX 2070 Max-Q graphics card consumes power, which means you will need to be connected to an outlet while gaming. For me the question is, which one is more valuable. Having a second external screen or something that is only 6 inch and built-in? The decision is yours. The future might be for dual monitored laptops. But we are still in the early phases. Therefore it might be better to wait a bit longer for maturity of those kind of devices. Hands-on article by Ümit Yılmaz GüneşSpecifications

Like Asus, HP is convinced that two screens is better than one. While the second screen on the Omen X 2S 15 is definitely crisper than what the Asus VivoBook S15 has to offer, be prepared for a lot of glare and potential brightness issues.

The HP Omen X 2S is a powerful gaming laptop and has few equals when it comes to performance. However, unless you have a burning desire for a mildly useful second screen, you are paying a premium.

Whether the second screen is worth having will really depend on how you see yourself using it. But that certainly shouldn't be the only reason to eye-up this laptop. Overall, the Omen X 2S appears to be a well-rounded packaging and a gaming powerhouse.
