With its asking price of £309, the HP Mini 210 is almost unbeatable, but it could use some more features. In particular, we'd like 802.11n Wi-Fi, an integrated 3G modem, and a USB Sleep-and-Charge-style port would be very useful for travellers. But as far as design and ease of use are concerned, the HP Mini 210 is excellent. It's a vast improvement over the Mini 110.

The $384 HP Mini 210 combines an attractive netbook chassis with one of the best keyboards in its class, and it offers an HD screen and high-def video playback at a reasonable price. If you don’t need HD capabilities, for $85 less you can get an ASUS Eee PC 1001P, which also boasts an excellent keyboard, performs slightly better, and lasts almost 2 hours longer. In this price range we prefer the Toshiba mini NB305 because of its better ergonomics and cooler running temperatures, but if you want a little more multimedia muscle from your netbook, the Mini 210 is a worthwhile choice.

HP's HP Mini 210 (NB-210-1017TU_01) netbook is stylish, comfortable to use and easy to upgrade. Although it has standard specifications, its look and feel are very different to most netbooks', and it's a much more refined product than the netbook it replaces (the HP Mini 110). We like it a lot, but wish it had 802.11n Wi-Fi, more RAM and extra features, such as a Sleep-and-Charge USB port.

HP's Mini 210 makes some significant changes from their previous generation consumer netbooks. The new patterned exterior wraps around the top and bottom and gives it a very stylish look. They have also taken they superb keyboard design from their business line and adapted it to this one. Battery life is very strong thanks to the new Atom N450 but performance hasn't improved much.

We've always been more partial to the Netbooks put out by HP's business side (such as the Mini 5102), but budget-conscious buyers can get largely similar systems from HP's consumer side with lower starting prices. The versatile HP Mini 210 adds best-of features from other HP laptops, but the HD video card requires a still-in-beta Flash update for streaming Flash video.

We’ve been covering netbooks consistently this past month, and its about time we look at one of the bigger names in this clustered market, and that is HP. Overall I cannot find anything really spectacular about the Mini210 that stands out against the competition, but still there is value here in terms of good battery life, and a great alternative OS made by HP.

The HP Mini 210 consumer netbook is a basic netbook that does a decent job of providing what you'd expect from a typical product in this category, without any major surprises. Fortunately, it does so at a reasonable price: Mini 210 configurations start at $279, though the model we tested included a couple of upgrades that raised its price to $309. Nothing particularly impressive nor disappointing distinguishes the HP Mini 210, but the price is right.

Excellent design, build quality and ergonomics, plus good battery life; a high-quality netbook. The rosy glow that surrounded netbooks a couple of years ago has all but vanished thanks to the rise of CULV-based laptops and the upcoming wave of tablets, but the steady trickle of new models, of which the HP Mini 210 is the latest, indicates there’s still a market for these diminutive machines.

HP has produced some of the most user-friendly netbooks we've seen in our labs over the last 18 months, from the original mini 2130 and 1001TU to the more recent 5010. The NB210 follows much of the same formula as the original series. One welcome change is the new position for the battery.

Overall I like where HP is going with the Mini 210, but I have some problems with this computer. I like how it looks, but the scuffs on the exterior were bothersome and I enjoy the portability, but the extended battery would have really helped as the computer kept dying on me whenever I took it away from my desk. Similar to the the battery life, poor performance and video playback problems could have been avoided with minor upgrades–in fact less than $100 in upgrades would have made this a much better computer.

The HP Mini 210 HD is an attractive little computer with decent performance and an excellent display. What’s more, this may be the first time I’ve used a netbook and decided not to hold its integrated touchpad buttons against it. Don’t get me wrong — I would really like the HP Mini 210 HD a lot more if it had separate left and right buttons. But the experience of using the touchpad wasn’t that bad, and I’m giving HP a lot of credit for producing a 10 inch netbook with a high resolution display and a relatively low starting price.

Ultraportable computers are currently set in two camps, with 10" netbooks and 11.6" CULV-notebooks fighting against each other. Netbooks for the longest time have offered longer battery life at the expense of system performance, while CULV-notebooks offered higher resolution screens with much greater system performance. The HP Mini 210 HD is a cross between those two groups, offering a mix of an Intel Atom processor, WXGA (720p compatible) screen resolution, HD movie playback (with decoder card) and still keeping the 10" netbook form-factor.

The PC comes with Windows 7 Home Premium preinstalled, which fits it quite nicely. The rest of the software consists of a few HP tools, a trial version of Office 2007 and Norton Internet Security. A few additional tiny applications are also there, such as the Youcam mirror, which means that the installed camera will provide you with a mirror whenever you have your netbook with you. What else? Well, we tried to figure out whom this netbook is truly intended for, and we have two replies in mind: ladies that have a desktop PC at home and desire a small, portable notebook which they can put inside their ladies’ bags and carry around to work, a café, or on a visit to somebody. It’s also ideal for girls who have no other computer and have no professional work in mind. Mini 210 will serve very well for watching films, listening to music, doing homework, using Facebook, uploading photos etc. It’s really an ideal present in both cases, and this is probably what HP has been getting at all along. This is, after all, how the price was formed - the netbook costs exactly what it’s worth.

There's a reason the HP Mini 210 is top selling netbook on Amazon. The beautiful display, easy to use keyboard and slim attractive design compensate for the less than stellar battery life and the interesting mousepad. Home users looking for a machine to check email and surf on the couch will love this machine. It is also a great choice for a back to school laptop when paired with another computer or an external keyboard, mouse and monitor. Given that you can find the Mini 210 from $259 it's hard to pass this netbook up.

After taking in the sleek finish, solid feel, and crisp display, we wanted to love the Mini 210 right out of the box. Sadly, that’s not the end of the story. Its less endearing traits take time to ooze to the surface, and when they do, the honeymoon is over. We could forgive a few extra milliseconds for simple tasks like opening a folder or a browser, and a splashtop OS that doesn’t actually seem to work, but that touchpad is harder to live with than a roommate who watches.

While it's one of the cooler-looking Netbooks you're likely to find on retail store shelves, the HP Mini 210-1199DX has only a handful of component upgrades over a baseline entry level Netbook, making its $379 asking price a bit of a stretch. The HP mini 210-2040ef is now part of our netbook review. The HP Mini 210 is a solid option for anyone looking for a relatively inexpensive 10 inch netbook offering decent performance. It has a few features that you won’t find from most netbooks, including a base panel that can be removed without a screwdriver, a 7200RPM hard drive, and a colorful case with a matching lid and base panel.

The HP Mini 210's top-end version that we've tested sells for Rs. 19,999. Although it is around Rs. 5,000 more than a usual Netbook, what you get in return is worth it. The excellent keyboard, the responsive touch-pad, the sturdy build quality and charming looks, not to forget the slightly better internals. If you're looking for a Netbook and are willing to spend a little more for finesse, then the Mini 210 will not disappoint. If you're already sold on the Mini, but want HD playback as well, then hold your horses. The HP dm1z is an AMD Fusion based model that shares all the good design aspects of this model, plus brings in 1080p HD playback, a bigger 11.6-inch higher-res screen, and a supposed 5-hour battery life. It's already selling in the US and we can't wait to get our hands on it once it arrives in India.

The HP Mini 210 is a great netbook, but the hardware fails it. Single-core Atom processors simply can’t provide an adequately enjoyable user experience, if they ever could. Saving about $100 by purchasing the HP Mini 210 instead of a dual-core netbook, be it HP’s own dm1z or a model from a competitor, seems a poor choice.

The HP Mini 210-2000 is a competent netbook that may not wow you with bells and whistles, but will get online on the go for hours and hours on end.

Battery power, on the other hand, is a huge selling point at about 9-10 hours of battery life, which blows past pretty much all other competitors. The 6-cell battery that HP provides with the HP Mini 210-2180 is one of the best we've seen in this class of netbooks.

The HP Mini is a decent netbook, but is really going to appeal only to those needing a budget machine that runs Windows. Tablets such as the iPad 2 are hugely popular with business people for tasks such as internet browsing on the move, and represent a better option if your aim is primarily for content consumption. However, while they're more portable, high-end models will set you back around twice the price. For those who need to carry out serious productivity on the move, it's worth splashing out a bit more on machines packing Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 chips.

The HP Mini 210-3002sa is possibly the best netbook we've seen – solidly constructed, usable and you don't necessarily have to buy it in a garish colour. It is slightly pricier than some of the netbooks we've seen at £269 inc VAT, though it isn't the most expensive. However, low-end ultraportable laptops would be less than £100 more and have far more grunt than an Intel Atom chip can provide, so if you do need something more versatile, that might be a better option. The standout feature of the HP Mini is the sound quality – it really has to be heard to be believed – so as a portable entertainment machine, it represents good value for money.

The HP Mini has plenty going for it. With solid build quality, excellent battery life and a good screen and keyboard, it’s a great all-rounder. And if you’ve been put off HP products by stories that it would be selling its PC division, don’t be: the company has now confirmed that PCs remain a key part of its business.

HP: Founded in 1939, the US company is a major server and printer manufacturer and one of the leading IT companies in the world. Until 2015, the company was called Hewlett-Packard Company. After a split, the computer division was renamed HP Inc.
In 2023, HP had an approximate market share of 22% of global PC sales, making it number 2 after Lenovo.
These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Integrated (shared memory) graphics card in the intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimally faster than an old GMA 950 and therefore not suited for 3D games or HD videos (only MPEG2 acceleration).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3650: Integrated processor graphics card (e.g. in the Atom N2800) without dedicated memory. Most likely based on a PowerVR design similar to the GMA 500 but with higher clock rates.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) HD Graphics: Onboard graphics card that is built in the new Arrandale CPUs (Core i3 / i5 / i7 Dual Cores). Depending on the model and Turbo Boost, the GMA HD is clocked between 166 and 766 MHz.

Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).
N450:
Intel Atom CPU for Netbooks with integrated memory controller and GMA 3150 GPU. The performance of the system should be only minimally faster than the previous Atom N280 / GMA 950 combination.
N470: Upcoming Atom CPU for Netbooks with integrated memory controller and GMA 3150 GPU. The performance of the CPU should be compareable to a Atom Z450 with 1.86 GHz and about 5-10% above the N450.
N455: Intel Atom CPU for Netbooks with integrated DDR3 memory controller and GMA 3150 GPU. The performance of the system should be only minimally faster than the previous Atom N280 / GMA 950 combination.
N550: Dual core Atom with a TDP of only 8.5 Watt. Because of the slow clock speed of 1.5 GHz it may be sometimes even slower than a N465 Atom CPU.
N475: Upcoming Atom CPU for Netbooks with integrated DDR3 memory controller (as the difference to the N470 with DDR2) and GMA 3150 GPU. The performance of the CPU should be only minimally faster than a current Atom Z450 with 1.86 GHz.
N570: Dual core Atom processor with a slightly higher clock rate than the Atom N550 and therefore still slower than the CULV processors.
N2800:
Dual core Atom CPU with an integrated SGX545 PowerVR graphics card and a video decoder.

71.98%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
