With the Ryzen 5 PRO, the 14-incher goes full throttle and outclasses the top models from Intel. In addition, it offers great runtimes, a low noise level, and excellent maintenance options. However, it doesn't manage to achieve the subnotebook-megastar status because of the display.

Renoir has proven itself to be a beast of a series and the 8-core 16-thread Ryzen 7 Pro 4750U is no exception. The CPU propels the HP EliteBook 845 G7 to be much faster than what its vanilla visual design might otherwise suggest.

This model falls short of a Recommended award due to the uncertainty over screen quality; all the models I’ve seen on sale so far include the untested 250cd/m² screen. But if your HP reseller can supply a 400cd/m² screen, or speed is of greater value to you than image quality, the price and performance combine to form a compelling proposition.

Lisa Gade reviews the HP EliteBook 845 G7 with AMD Ryzen Pro CPUs inside for a performance boost and a nicer price. This aluminum clad premium 14” business Ultrabook starts at $999 and it’s available with a variety of full HD IPS matte non-touch and touch displays including HP’s Sure View 1,000 nit option. The laptop has a strong selection of ports and is quite upgradable (even the RAM!). It has USB-C, optional 4G LTE-A, Wi-Fi 6, a fingerprint scanner and Windows Hello IR camera. It competes with the Lenovo ThinkPad T14s.

But a go-anywhere business workhorse laptop that’s sleek, sturdy, and powerful doesn’t need to break the bank. The EliteBook 845 fits the bill for less than $1,500, which is at least $500 less than you’d expect to pay for an equivalent machine with an Intel processor. If you’re in the market for a single laptop or are replacing just a few for your small or medium business, the EliteBook 845 is a no-brainer.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
