Google confirms Pixel Watch 3 cannot be repaired

Alongside the new Pixel 9 series, Google has introduced the Google Pixel Watch 3. While a good number of specs are similar to the predecessor, there are some upgrades. For example, the AMOLED display of the new wearable can offer up to 2,000 nits of brightness, a 2x jump from the Pixel Watch 2.

Moreover, the bezels on both the variants of Pixel Watch 3 are slimmed down by 16% when compared to the Watch 2 (WiFi curr. $249.99 on Amazon). But even with a couple of upgrades, the new wearable is still the same in terms of repairability. As confirmed by Google, the smartwatch isn't repairable. Instead, if something happens, the company will only offer a replacement.

It is worth mentioning that, like the Pixel Watch 2, both the 41 mm and 45 mm variants of the new smartwatch are eligible for "Preferred Care." This is an insurance program that covers accidental damages and issues that happen to devices, even if they are out of warranty. But having this insurance doesn't mean you will get a replacement without any added charges.

There is a $49 service fee, which, when added to $4 per month or $89 for two years, can make "Preferred Care" seem expensive. All these make the Pixel Watch 2 a less viable option if you want to keep the smartwatch for a couple of years. Of course, Google did make the process of getting a replacement a little easier by launching a mail-in replacement service for Pixel Watch 2, but the program for the new smartwatch has yet to be introduced.
