Can Google Translate finally make your iPhone a real interpreter?
Google is expanding its "Live Translate" feature to iOS, allowing iPhone users to experience real-time audio translation through headphones. Supporting over 70 languages, the tool preserves the speaker's original tone and cadence for more natural conversations. The update is currently rolling out across major global markets, including the UK, Japan, and Europe.

Back in December, Google started officially integrating Gemini into Google Translate, aiming to move beyond the era of robotic, word-for-word translations that often left travelers accidentally asking for directions to the moon.

Now, Google is bringing its "Live Translate" feature to iOS users, following a successful debut on Android last year. When paired with headphones, the tool provides real-time audio translations directly to the user's ear.

The technology aims for natural communication by preserving a speaker’s original tone, emphasis, and rhythm. This makes it easier to navigate foreign lectures, enjoy international films, or hold more fluid conversations while traveling.

The update is now rolling out in several countries, including France, Germany, and Japan, and supports over 70 languages. iPhone users can access it by tapping "Live Translate" within the Google Translate app.

By using any pair of headphones with the Android or iOS app, users can hear real-time translations that preserve the speaker's original tone, emphasis, and cadence. Like if someone yells at you in Italian, you should be able to hear the anger in English, making the experience of being insulted in a different language more… immersive. Just kidding, Italians yell with their hands.
