Google Pixelbook Go 4K variant now shipping
The regular Pixelbook Go hit the market back in October, but those keen for more horsepower have been holding out for the 4K variant. The wait is finally over as the new model is now available for order on the US Google Store at US$1,399. Unfortunately, if you’re a fan of the Not Pink variant it hasn’t yet made the cut leaving only the Just Black model up for grabs.
In addition to the Ultra HD Molecular Display, high-end Pixelbook Go users also score an 8th gen Core i7-8500Y dual-core chip, 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of onboard storage. It’s not the kind of machine that you would expect a college student to pick up, but rather it is more likely targeted at developers who might also want to code in Linux when on the go. That said, as a dual-core Y-series chip with a base frequency of just 1.5 GHz and TDP of only 7 W, it might still be a little under powered in this use case.
There is a lot of Chrome OS-based competition out there including Google's own more powerful Pixelbook with 7th gen Intel processors. You can also similarly specified devices for less, like the Asus Chromebook Flip C434TA, but it carries a weight penalty at 3.19 pounds. The Pixelbook Go weighs in at just 2.3 pounds and also offers up to 12 hours of battery life compared to the 10 hours offered up by the Asus. But then again, the Pixelbook Go doesn’t support a stylus. Decisions, decisions…
