Google Pixel 7a now official with Tensor G2, 90 Hz FHD+ display, and 64 MP main camera
Information about the Google Pixel 7a has been leaking since the mid of 2022. So much so that details about the new midrange Pixel aren't exactly new at this point. Nevertheless, the Pixel 7a is finally here at Google I/O alongside the Pixel Tablet and the Pixel Fold.
The Pixel 7a is powered by the Google Tensor G2 — the same SoC found in the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro. That being said, it is a decent upgrade over the original Tensor SoC in the Pixel 6a. The Tensor G2 powers a good number of AI features including Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur in Google Photos. Other AI features include smoother calls with Clear Calling, At-a-Glance, and Assistant voice typing.
Complementing the Tensor G2 is 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The Tensor G2 also works together with the Titan M2 security chip. Both Face Unlock and Fingerprint Unlock are available.
The Pixel 7a comes with an FHD+ (1080 x 2400, 429 PPI) 90 Hz display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The display supports Always-On mode that shows At-a-Glance and Now Playing information.
Pixels are known for their imaging, and the 7a incorporates a dual-camera system comprised of a 64 MP quad-Bayer camera with 8x Super Res Zoom along with a 13 MP ultrawide lens. A 13 MP 95° ultrawide helps with the selfies. The rear camera offers video recording up to 4K 60 fps while the front camera supports up to FHD 60 fps.
Google says that the Pixel 7a is slated to get five years of security updates. The company indicates in the fine print that this five-year update cycle "may also include feature drops and other software updates". The wording is a bit ambiguous as it does not actually specify how many major OS updates will be supported.
In India, the Pixel 7a is priced at ₹43,999 and will be available in Charcoal, Sea, and Snow. US pricing is at US$499 with an additional Coral color option that will be exclusive to the Google Store. Every Pixel 7a comes with three months of YouTube Premium and Google One.
