Mountain View celebrated its 10th anniversary of the Google Photos app at the beginning of June. Even then, it was clear that the search engine expert was working on a comprehensive overhaul of the integrated photo editor in the Google Photos app. The new features were discovered in version 7.34.0.772224975 and introduce both visual and functional improvements. The goal is to make operation more intuitive and optimize the editing process. Google has opted for modern Material 3 Expressive Design, which will accompany Android 16. The focus is on soft, rounded corners and a clear structure.
A new layout ensures intuitive work
The tools have been regrouped and divided into clear categories such as Auto, Actions, Markup, Filters, Lighting and Color. Existing functions have been retained but rearranged to simplify workflows. The Filters section now features the new "Sky Styles" function with effects such as Luminous, Radiant, Vivid, and Ember for targeted sky editing. The Auto section has also been expanded and now offers three automatic optimization options: Enhance, Dynamic and AI Enhance. Previously hidden tools like Portrait Blur, Erase, Move, and Reimagine are now directly accessible there.
The new tool search function is particularly helpful. Users can search for a specific editing tool instead of clicking through menus. This saves time and makes it easier to access lesser-known functions.
Google had originally announced that the update would be rolled out worldwide in June. So far, however, it has only been activated for a small test group in the US.
According to a recent statement made to Android Authority, a broad rollout for the Android operating system is scheduled for August. Apple users will have to wait a little longer. It remains to be seen when exactly all users will be able to enjoy the new functions.
