God of War Laufey delayed by three months

Santa Monica Studio revealed God of War Laufey at the State of Play in June. It was given a February 2027 release date and was meant to be a spin-off of the rebooted God of War (2018) franchise. Now, the studio has announced that the game will unfortunately be delayed, so those eagerly waiting for February will have to wait a bit longer.
In a post on X, the studio announced that they need some more time to finish God of War Laufey and are therefore moving the release to May 20, 2027. That’s over three months of delay from its original February 16, 2027 release date.
Fans are supportive of the decision, allowing Santa Monica Studio to take their time in order to release a fully finished product. This is the first delay for the game, and hopefully the last.
Soon after pre-orders went live a few months after the announcement, God of War Laufey was at #2 in most countries, trailing behind GTA 6. Despite the criticism for Kratos not being the lead, the game did very well in terms of pre-orders. There were some critics who felt that the game would underperform compared to past releases because it was venturing too far from a successful formula.
