The P37X is finally a viable 4K gaming machine, thanks to an upgrade to Nvidia’s GTX 1070, and it manages to be thinner than its predecessor in the process.

As more and more VR ready laptops hit the market, it’s great to see the vast array of choices available, from the most garish to the unassuming. The GIGABYTE P37 is definitely in the latter category, but that’s not at all a bad thing.

In summary, we find the Gigabyte P37X v6 packs a surprising amount of features, expandability, and performance into a slim 17.3-inch chassis. If its tame looks do the trick for you and your budget permits, it’s a sensible Pascal pick.

Whether the Gigabyte P37x v6 is right for you depends on what type of gamer you are. If you can live without external bells and whistles, if you crave a 4K display, and if you like the idea of above-average portability and battery life, it's a fine way to go. But if raw performance is more your thing, and you want to save money and get a snazzier design as part of the bargain, the MSI GT62VR Dominator Pro-005 earns its Editors' Choice status, and also gives you more memory (if less storage) while costing $500 less. Wherever you fall on this spectrum, though, either laptop is a strong pick that will ensure you're gaming happily for years to come.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Mobile: Pascal based high-end mobile graphics card based on a cut down GP104 (like the GTX 1080) and GDDR5 graphics memory. Successor to the GTX 980M with a 10 Watts higher TDP. Similar to the desktop GTX 1070 performance wise, but with more shaders and lower clock speeds.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
6700HQ: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.8 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
Gigabyte: Gigabyte Technology is a Taiwanese computer hardware manufacturer founded in 1986, best known for its motherboards and graphics cards. Gigabyte offers a wide range of products including motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, monitors, systems and components. Gigabyte's laptops offer gaming and creative features on the go. Gigabyte monitors offer 4K Pro Gaming.
80%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
