Following the product release cycles of previous-gen GPUs, Nvidia debuted the Lovelace architecture by first launching the high-end RTX 4090 and the RTX 4080 cards. But although the boards are now available for sale and appear to be worthy upgrades over their predecessors, they cost quite a lot. So, many users are waiting for more budget-friendly options down the line. Unfortunately, if the latest rumors about the RTX 4060 are true, the board may not be as much of a price-to-performance upgrade as some would have hoped.
The newest report comes to us courtesy of leaker harukaze5719 on Twitter who spotted Weibo user WolStame, an alleged “Desktop Gaming Product Manager” at Lenovo China, divulging some details about the RTX 4060.
So far, leaks have claimed that the RTX 4060 will have 8 GB of VRAM, 28% more CUDA cores vs the RTX 3060, and up to 200 W TDP. According to WolStame, the RTX 4060 could bring a 20% performance uplift vs the RTX 3060. This would make the RTX 4060 similar in terms of raw horsepower to the RTX 3070. Interestingly, unlike past rumors that the RTX 4060 will consume more power than its predecessor, WolStame suggests the GPU will use less energy than the RTX 3060 with a TDP that could lie between 150-180 W.
An upgraded NVENC video encoder and DLSS 3 are also rumored to make an appearance on the RTX 4060. Finally, the GPU is reportedly launching in June 2023 with a 10% higher price tag than the RTX 3060, making the board cost roughly as much as an RTX 3060 Ti.
As always, take these rumors with a grain of salt as the final performance figures, TDP numbers, and MSRP can be different.
