The Garmin Approach S44 and Approach S50 golf smartwatches are receiving a new update. System software 6.17 appears to be a relatively minor release for these two wearables.
The change log for version 6.17 states that the stable update fixes two bugs. It resolves a possible crash issue experienced by users from the main golf screen. Plus, a problem where the wrong scoring screen was shown at the end of a hole has also been resolved.
This update arrives a few days after a more significant release, version 6.16. This added new features like support for a device passcode, with various settings controlled via the Garmin Connect mobile app. These watches gained compatibility with Garmin’s Approach CT1 club trackers with Find My Gear in the Garmin Golf app. On top of this, there was a new Rangefinder settings menu. Plus, the Approach S50 also has the new Breathing Variations tool.
According to posts on the Garmin forum, system software 6.17 is already available for at least 60% of users of the Approach S50 and Approach S44 smartwatches (curr. $299.99 at Amazon). Users will be able to install the update on their computer using Garmin Express or on their smartphone with the Garmin Golf app.
