A new stable update has arrived for the Garmin Venu Sq 2 smartwatch. This is the first release of its kind for the wearable in over half a year, resolving a problem with the alarm. However, there is a far larger issue that users have flagged on the Garmin forum that is not addressed in this announcement.

Garmin is rolling out software version 2.68 for the Venu Sq 2 smartwatch. This latest release follows version 2.66, which arrived almost eight months ago. This brought improvements to Connect IQ as well as general system stability optimizations.

Software version 2.68 is another relatively minor release with two changes listed. Firstly, Garmin states that a problem with the alarm has been resolved. It is unclear precisely which issue has been fixed. The second note explains that there are further system stability improvements, though no further details indicate where users may feel any benefit.

A notable absence from the change log is any reference to the recent battery drain issues flagged by users. Several customers have flagged faster-than-expected battery drain following the update to version 2.66, with the watch failing to run for more than 24 hours. Whether or not software version 2.68 fixes this bug remains to be seen.

Users of the Venu Sq 2 smartwatch (curr. $184.94 at Amazon) can download the new software version 2.68 either via the Garmin Connect Mobile app or Garmin Express. The company has confirmed that it is already available for all users and is not rolling out in phases.
