Those looking for a feature-rich and affordable fitness-centred smartwatch will be pleased to know that the Garmin Forerunner 55 is now discounted on Amazon. It costs $149.99, $50 lower than its asking price of $199.99. While that isn't much, the Forerunner 55's price has never dropped below $149.99, at least on Amazon, as confirmed by CamelCamelCamel's price tracker. Even though it is four years old at this point, Garmin keeps it topped up with a steady stream of updates.
As its name suggests, the Forerunner 55 is centred around running and offers a wide range of features to track your performance, such as Garmin's PacePro tech that helps you pace long runs, cadence alerts and a race predictor that estimates your performance. The Garmin Coach feature can double up as a fitness trainer and recommend workouts based on your goals.
The Garmin Forerunner 55 comes with a heart rate tracker, stress monitoring, body energy monitoring, women's health monitoring and can track over a dozen activities. It can also be used to track swimming performance and is rated for 5 ATMs of atmospheric pressure. Lastly, it is a part of Garmin's Connect IQ ecosystem that lets you customise watch faces and download third-party integrations.
On the hardware side, the Forerunner 55 comes with a 1.04-inch screen with a resolution of 208 x 208 pixels. It measures 42 mm x 42 mm x 11.6 mm and is recommended for people with a wrist circumference of 126-303 mm. Garmin advertises a two-week battery life, but you'll need a proprietary charger (included in the box). Unfortunately, it has a paltry 32 MB of on-board memory.
