Samsung continues to expand the availability of the latest monthly security patches to its mobile devices. As its newest flagship phones, the Galaxy S25 lineup is among the first to receive the April 2025 security update. The firm began rolling out the firmware in Europe last week and is now expanding it to all factory-unlocked S25 units in the US.
In recent months, security patches for Galaxy devices have primarily focused on fixing potentially exploitable vulnerabilities only. The company has been busy developing One UI 7 for months. However, the Galaxy S25 lineup is fairly recent, so there's likely room for optimization and a few things to fix here and there. Well, the April patch for these devices brings some additional fixes and improvements beyond the classic security hole fixes.
Galaxy S25 series' April 2025 security update brings media player widget to notification panel
One of the main improvements in the new firmware is the inclusion of the media player widget in the notification shade. For unknown reasons, this useful feature has not been present on these devices since launch. Interestingly, other Galaxy devices that later received One UI 7 did have the widget in the notification panel. Did Samsung ship an “incomplete” version of One UI 7 with the Galaxy S25 series? We'll probably never know—at least officially.
The OTA also improves the battery charging animation on the Galaxy S25 series. The changelog even mentions improvements to the camera experience, without offering more details. It's pretty normal for Samsung to tweak the image processing algorithms on its devices after launch, though.
As reported by SamMobile, the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra in the US are getting the April 2025 security update with build numbers S931U1UEU2AYD9, S936U1UEU2AYD9, and S938U1UEU2AYD9, respectively. You should receive a notification once it's available for your device. However, you can always try a manual check in your phone's Settings > Software update > Download and install.
