Two new EUIPO filings suggest that Samsung is gearing to release a new Fan Edition smartphone later this year. Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S21 FE in August at another Galaxy Unpacked event.

It is no secret that Samsung intends to release another 'Fan Edition' smartphone this year, as we have previously reported. For example, Samsung's Mexican website briefly mentioned the Galaxy S21 FE, while a leaked roadmap suggested that the device would debut on August 19.

Now, Samsung has made two filings with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) that hint at the Galaxy S21 FE's release. According to the listings, Samsung wants to register the terms 'Activate Fan Mode' and 'Unleash Your Fan Power', applications for which the company filed this week.

Initially, we speculated that Samsung might be bringing active cooling to future smartphones and tablets. However, the second registration for 'Unleash Your Fan Power' implies that these are marketing terms for a future fan-inspired device, rather than anything related to cooling.

The Galaxy S21 FE is expected to launch with a 120 Hz display and a 4,500 mAh battery. The device should feature a top-tier SoC too, with the Exynos 2100 or Snapdragon 888 the likely candidates.
