We have reported on the Fujifilm X-E5 before, with the most recent of those reports indicating that the launch of the upcoming compact APS-C camera was on the horizon. Now, thanks to a new leak from Fuji Rumors, it seems as though the deductions about an imminent launch were accurate.
Fujifilm X-E5 launch and expected specs
According to the leaker, the Fujifilm X-E5 will launch — or more likely be announced — sometime in June 2025, which is significantly sooner than previously expected. However, little has been revealed about the upcoming camera, so any specifications you might see are all assumptions.
Given the previous trends Fujifilm has set, there are some safe assumptions that we can make, however. For starters, it seems reasonable to assume that if Fujifilm sticks to the prior naming convention, the X-E5 will have the same retro-inspired design language as its predecessor — something it will share with the X100VI. It also seems reasonable to assume that the new camera will get the same X-Processor 5 from the Fujifilm X100VI and more affordable X-T50 (curr. $1,499.99 on Amazon with a kit lens).
Given that Fujifilm's current-generation sensor is also the X-Trans V, it also seems reasonable to assume that the X-E5 will launch with that same sensor. Although the X-E series has always been a more affordable version of the X-Pro line-up, the two camera series, along with the X100 line, have always been fairly close to feature-parity, suggesting that the X-E5 will also feature the 5-axis IBIS from the current X100VI.
Fujifilm has recently been experimenting with new control schemes, whether that be the film simulation dial from the likes of the X-T50 or the minimalist layout and diptych system in the X Half. Given this recent experimentation, it would not be a surprise to see something similar make its way to the X-E5 — the film simulation dial seems most likely, given the target market of the X-E5 is beginners and mid-range photographers looking for a unique shooting experience.
Of course, all of this is mere speculation, although we will seemingly not have to wait all that long before the official announcement, and it's more than likely specifications for the X-E5 will show up in leaks as the release date draws near. Previously, it seemed as though Fujifilm could have been planning to launch the X-E5 as late as 2026, but it seems as though the announcement and impending official launch of the Ricoh GR IV may have accelerated the launch timeline for Fujifilm's next compact APS-C camera.
