The latest model of the Freewrite Traveler uses a case made entirely of transparent plastic. This means that the inner workings of the device can be seen, while the Ghost Edition is bursting with retro charm. However, the transparent keycaps make it a little more difficult to read the labels.
The keyboard layout can be changed to QWERTZ in the device's software, but the lettering on the membrane keyboard is always in QWERTY and there is also no option for an ISO layout. Technically, the Ghost Edition corresponds to the Freewrite Traveler, which has been available for some time, and the new model focuses primarily on distraction-free writing. To this end, Freewrite has installed a 5.5-inch E ink display that is said to be perfectly legible in direct sunlight.
The device, which weighs around 700 grams, reportedly has a battery life of four weeks when writing for 30 minutes a day and is charged via USB-C. Thanks to an integrated WiFi module, written texts can be automatically uploaded to the cloud and managed in the Freewrite Postbox. However, users wanting to upload texts and edit them directly on the Freewrite Traveler have to take out a paid Freewrite Plus subscription.
Price and availability
The Freewrite Traveler Ghost Edition is now available via the manufacturer's website for USD 599.00. Freewrite only produces one batch of this special edition, so it is only available while stocks last. By comparison, the regular Freewrite Traveler with the white housing costs $449.00. Freewrite includes all taxes and fees directly upon sale, but the prices do not include shipping costs.
