Free-to-play: New fun multiplayer Steam game with "Very Positive" reviews launches, featuring proximity voice chat

Cheese Rolling, a free-to-play indie inspired by the famous Gloucestershire’s Cooper’s Hill tradition, has launched on Steam as of August 20, 2023. The aforementioned annual tradition in England involves sprinting and tumbling down a steep slope after a rolling wheel of cheese.
Races support small online lobbies, and there is a solo option against AI to keep the game accessible when online lobbies are empty. The handling is intentionally loose at high speed, which means wipeouts and pileups are common; that unpredictability is a feature, not a bug, and most of the entertainment comes from recovering after tumbles and threading through other players. Proximity voice chat is included and should keep runs lively with real-time chatter. Content is pretty modest for launch. Beyond a grassy hillside, there are additional course variants like snow and underground-style tracks that change visibility and traction, while cosmetics are not a major focus for the game.
For a free game, early response is quite upbeat: players really like the slapstick physics and proximity voice chat, saying the loose controls make crashes funny rather than frustrating. Press write-ups also call out the no-cost download and quick-match loop. As of writing, the game has nearly 170 reviews: a whopping 97% of those are in favor of Cheese Rolling. Game visibility is mostly driven by clips and word of mouth, but at this rate, the game could become even more popular. Considering it is a low-commitment multiplayer game that delivers exactly what it promises, it should easily drive more traffic to the same.
