Framework Laptop 12th gen Core i7-1280P, Core i7-1260P, and Core i5-1240P are finally here
When Framework launched its Framework Laptop in early 2021, its most boasted feature was the ability to easily replace any major component — including the motherboard — to improve repairability and reduce both waste and costs. Consequently, owners would be able to swap out the motherboard for a newer motherboard with a faster processor if desired. The original 2021 model launched with Intel 11th gen U-series CPU options and so it was only inevitable that the 2022 refresh would include upgrades to the 12th gen U-series. Framework is claiming a 60 W TDP boost and 30 W sustained performance from the 12th gen CPU series for roughly 2x the raw performance year-over-year.
The manufacturer is now taking pre-orders for both its 12th gen CPU Framework Laptop and also for their corresponding motherboards if existing owners want to perform the upgrade themselves. The chassis or skeleton is otherwise identical year-over-year for compatibility reasons.
Other than the processor update, Framework will also be making available a new 2.5 Gbps RJ-45 Expansion Card that can be inserted along the sides of the laptop.
