VG Entertainment, headed by Ruslan Didenko, who served as project lead for Stalker: Call of Pripyat, has announced a new post-apocalyptic survival shooter set in a reimagined Paris overrun by nature. The twist? The forest is sentient.

The Stalker series has been a 'hood classic' among gamers brave enough to venture into The Zone. Its immersive post-apocalyptic sandbox may not be the most refined, but it's unique. No other game (the Metro franchise gets close) has captured the sheer scope of its wastelands.

Now, one of the devs who made the Stalker games a reality is announcing a new project through VG Entertainment that is developing (you guessed it) a post-apocalyptic survival shooter set in Paris. The twist? The city's been overrun by nature, with trees and vines marring its architecture. What's more? It looks like the trees might be sentient.

Forest Reigns is like taking a healthy dose of Stalker and mixing with it some Annihilation for good measure. The visuals seem oddly colorful, with all manners of exotic tree life dousing the city in various hues.

They aren't here to look pretty, either. If you fire a round at a tree trunk, it expands and provides cover from gunfire. If you shoot its glowing spot, it will explode and damage enemies nearby. Another example shows the player shooting plants that can bounce bullets into enemies, or you can also command roots to grab your enemies and hold them stationary.

"It isn't just part of the environment—it's a conscious entity with its own desires and intentions," reads the game's Steam listing. "Interact with it to reveal its mysteries, use it for defeating enemies, or face its wrath as it reacts to your choices."

The game promises non-linear exploration and unique factions to side with or go against. Resources will be scarce. You must plan, scavenge, and craft to survive. There is no release date yet.
