Ford has released a new performance upgrade for the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT. With the software upgrade installed, Ford claims that the Mustang Mach-E GT now beats the Tesla Model Y Performance in acceleration as the upgrade reduces the Mustang Mach-E GT’s 0 to 60 mph time by 13%.

The 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT now reportedly accelerates from 0 to 60 mph faster than the Tesla Model Y Performance as a result of a Performance Upgrade that Ford has delivered in the form of a software update. The performance unlock allows the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.3 seconds. For reference, the EV does 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds without the software update.

However, what’s more interesting is that the figure of 3.3 seconds beats the Tesla Model Y Performance’s 0-60 mph speed of 3.5 seconds, making the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT faster by a 6% margin. According to Chet Dhruna, Ford’s General Manager of Integrated Services, the Performance Upgrade also allows the Mustang Mach-E GT to do a quarter mile in 11.8 seconds with a speed of 114 mph.

In order to achieve this boost, the software upgrade unlocks 100 lb-ft torque for a total of 700 lb. ft of torque. Ford reportedly achieved this by combining “innovative powertrain thermal modeling and control algorithms, and our new in-house e-Motor”.

2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT specifications

The 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is a fully electric SUV with AWD, 91 kWh usable capacity battery, 280 miles of estimated EPA range, and 480 hp. The EV starts at $54,995 with the Performance Upgrade mentioned above costing a one-time fee of $995 which the customers can either opt for during the time of the purchase or buy from the FordPass app later.

Additionally, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT’s front and rear suspension is a MagneRide Damping System which aims to provide both a comfortable ride and great handling. Without going into a lot of detail, the system works by using electromagnetic waves to change the properties of a specially designed suspension fluid. This way the MagneRide Damping System dynamically adjusts the feel of the suspension based on the road conditions.
