First Sony Xperia 2 details leak out, looks to be a "compact" Xperia 1
Sony is said to be prepping an Xperia 2 smartphone to complement the Xperia 1 flagship in its line up. Although not quite a “Compact” model of old, it is still very much taking the same approach by offering many of the features of the larger 6.5-inch Xperia 1 but in a size that measures 6.1-inch inches. For people interested in the Xperia 1 but think that it might be too tall for every day usability, this could fit the bill nicely.
Where the Xperia 1 measures 167mm x 72mm x 8.2mm, the Xperia 2 will reportedly measure in at 158mm x 68.3mm x 8.3mm. However, it will still be powered by Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855 processer and similarly pack 6 GB of RAM. A 3,000mAh battery is on board as is wireless charging. While a 4K OLED display is likely out of the question, it will probably sport a QHD+ OLED display in the same CineWide 21:9 display aspect ratio.
Although no details have yet spilled about the camera specifications, it appears that Sony has kept the same triple camera arrangement found on the Xperia 1 although aligned to one side rather than down the middle. If it is the same set up, it will mean three 12MP sensors each with different focal lengths and developed in conjunction with Zeiss and Samsung. If Sony can address the photographic shortcomings of its flagship devices, the Xperia 1 and Xperia 2 could help turn things around for the Japanese giant.
The Sony Xperia 1 is set to launch sometime next month with the Xperia 2 set to get a full reveal at IFA in September.
