At CES 2019, Nvidia CEO proudly unveiled that over 40 laptop models equipped with GeForce RTX graphics would be launching in the next few months. The first batch of laptops will begin shipping to retail on January 29 including the Alienware m15 and Razer Blade 15. As a result, we can expect major YouTube personalities and tech sites to focus heavily on the new generation of Nvidia mobile graphics in the coming weeks.
As for Notebookcheck, we'll also be prioritizing RTX laptops as we receive them so we can provide the raw data and performance numbers that gamers will want to see — without the fluff and florid language that some outlets tend to lean toward.
Of particular interest to us are the performance deltas, if any, between mobile RTX and desktop RTX. Mobile Pascal GPUs managed to close the performance gap almost completely with most laptops coming in at just 5 to 15 percent behind their desktop GTX equivalents. We're hopeful that the Turing generation will continue this trend to bring gaming laptops ever closer to the traditional gaming desktop.
The launch of a new generation also signifies price cuts and wide-reaching sales of last generation models. Keep an eye out for affordable Pascal-based gaming laptops in the coming weeks as well.
