First Geekbench results for the RTX 3070 Ti laptop GPU are in: Slightly faster than the RTX 3080 mobile and on par with Titan RTX
A few weeks ago at CES, Nvidia revealed the new RTX 3070 Ti and 3080 Ti laptop GPUs, but it only presented more elaborate performance metrics for the latter model. The RTX 3070 Ti model was solely presented as being “ up to 70% faster than the previous-gen GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER.” While the first laptops powered by the RTX 3070 Ti are supposed to officially start selling in early February for US$1,499 and up, the ITHome team already got their hands on an MSI Vector gaming notebook featuring the new GPU from Nvidia, and went ahead to post some Geekbench metrics that look promising.
Granted, Geekbench 5 is not a popular tool when it comes to testing game performance, yet the testing suite can still provide a comparison basis with previous GPU variants. Hopefully, the ITHome team will test the GPU with 3DMark and some actual games, as well, but until then, the Geekbench results seem good enough.
Initial test conducted with Geekbench showed that the RTX 3070 Ti laptop GPU can very slightly outperform the RTX 3080 laptop GPU and almost match the Titan RTX desktop version, with a score of 124,220 points in the OpenCL benchmark. Videocardz points out that the RTX 3080 results are combined from Max-P (full wattage) and Max-Q (reduced TGP) versions, while the RTX 3070 Ti is running at full 150 W, so the comparison is not exactly fair. That said, the new Ti version is still 15% slower than the desktop RTX 3070 Ti or the AMD Radeon RX 6800.
Keeping in mind that RTX 3080 laptops are still selling at around $2,000, a $500+ discount with very similar performance on the GPU side seems like a decent deal. What else is the MSI Vector GP66 12U laptop offering for this price point? Geekbench reveals an Intel Core i7-12700H processor coupled with 16 GB of DDR4-3200 (no DDR5 options), and the GPU is, of course, limited to 8 GB of VRAM.
Based on these figures, we can expect the RTX 3080 Ti mobile version to slightly outclass the desktop RTX 3070 Ti at a similar price, but you are also getting a laptop as a bonus.
