Fire hazard: Baseus issues recall of two popular power banks - users are advised to act immediately
Baseus, a manufacturer of a wide range of tech products, also sells power banks, and now has to recall two models. The models affected are the PPCXM06 and PPCXW06, i.e., the Baseus Magnetic Mini Wireless Fast Charge Power Bank 2022 with a capacity of 6,000 mAh and a maximum output power of 20 watts, and the Baseus Magnetic Wireless Charging Power Bank with the same capacity and output power.
The power banks were sold via various platforms, with the PPCXM06 sold on Amazon between March 2023 and April 2024, on AliExpress between June 2023 and April 2024 and directly in Baseus' online store between November 2022 and April 2024. The PPCXW06 was offered directly from Baseus between November 2022 and April 2024 and was also available via AliExpress and Amazon. All items sold within these timeframes are affected.
This does not apply to certain batches, but to all models as a whole. Users should take the recall very seriously: According to Baseus, the lithium-ion cells in the affected models can overheat, which can cause fires. This could potentially result in serious property damage or personal injury, especially when used unattended or in transportation.
Affected owners can apply for compensation on a dedicated page. Without an invoice, a maximum of $36 will be refunded. Owners must take care of disposal themselves. Baseus is appealing to people to raise awareness of the recall and to inform people who have received the aforementioned power bank models as gifts, for example. Amazon itself appears to be contacting customers by email.
