The AYN Thor is a dual-screen Android gaming handheld that was announced last month. It comes in four colors and four configurations, and is available to pre-order ahead of its release in mid-October. While buyers await their orders, AYN has shared live photos of the handheld which provide our best look yet.
The photos are of the Rainbow color variant which actually has an off-white/alabaster hue that gives it a retro look. AYN has chosen colored ABXY buttons for this variant, and they add a nice touch to the device's appearance. The handheld has gray thumbsticks and a matching D-Pad, while the rest of the buttons, including the shoulder and trigger buttons, are the same alabaster color as the shell.
One of the photos shows a close-up view of the rear which has vents for the fan and an engraving of the manufacturer's name. The back of the Thor is almost flat, which explains why AYN will be selling a grip case for better ergonomics.
We also get a glimpse of how the software works on the dual-screen handheld. In one of the images, the main display shows the homescreen while the smaller display shows important system info such as FPS, device temperature, fan speed, as well as CPU, GPU, and RAM details.
There are also shortcuts to apps and settings on the lower screen, which should allow users to make modifications without exiting the game or app on the main screen. Hopefully, AYN provides more details just like Ayaneo did for the Pocket DS, or better still, release a video demonstrating how it works.
The AYN Thor is a dual-screen handheld with a 6-inch FHD AMOLED 120Hz display and a 3.92-inch 60Hz secondary display. Depending on the configuration, buyers either get a Snapdragon 865 processor or the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of expandable storage. The Thor will also have a 6,000mAh battery with support for 27W fast charging, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.3.
The AYN Thor is available to pre-order from AYN's website at a starting price of $249 for the base model, and it goes up to $459 for the highest configuration.
