Deal | Fantasy 4X strategy game with custom races hits first-ever 60% discount on Steam

Peaceful orcs, warlike elves or catfolk with a passion for necromancy – in Age of Wonders 4, almost anything goes. The turn-based 4X strategy game lets players create their own fantasy race, with plenty of freedom to customize its appearance, culture and magical abilities. Until November 18, the game is 60% off on Steam, bringing the price down from just under $50 to $19.99. According to SteamDB, the previous biggest discount was 55%, making this the lowest price Age of Wonders 4 has ever reached.
Creating a custom race is just the beginning, though. The ultimate goal is to build a powerful empire. Players found cities, explore new territories, gather resources and expand their influence through diplomacy or military conquest. When rival armies meet, the action shifts to separate battlefields where units take turns fighting it out.
There's plenty of room for experimentation with magic, too. Rather than following a rigid technology tree, players can choose from a wide range of spell tomes spanning six magical affinities. These allow them to steer their empire in different directions, whether that's raising undead armies through necromancy or harnessing the power of nature. Those who prefer a more aggressive approach can rain down devastating fire spells and send powerful berserkers into battle.

IGN came away impressed with Age of Wonders 4, praising its extensive customization options, satisfying progression system and varied campaigns. The reviewer did see room for improvement in the game's balance and the way status effects are presented, however. Sieges were another weak point, reportedly feeling rather underwhelming. Overall, the game earned a solid 8 out of 10.
The strategy game has also been well received by critics and players alike. Metacritic lists Age of Wonders 4 with a Metascore of 84 and a user score of 7.0, while 80% of more than 23,000 Steam reviews are positive. The game is also rated "Playable" on Steam Deck.
