Update | Face unlock option appears in Google Pixel 6 screen lock settings
Update: It's imperative to point out that this actually isn't available in Settings but only when setting up the phone. It's a minor detail that doesn't change much but excuses existing owners of the Pixel 6 series being unable to find the option.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Google launched the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro last year without face unlock. The company has generally been reluctant to provide its phones without 3D sensors with a face unlock option but that looks set to change shortly.
In a post on Reddit, a Pixel 6 owner has reported the sighting of a face unlock option on their device. The option appears in the backup unlock method screen, which doesn't say much other than that Google is getting closer to implementing a face unlock option on the Pixel 6 series phones.
That isn't news, to be exact. Word on the grapevine already indicates that Google will roll out the face unlock feature to the Pixel 6 phones in the near future. This appears, however, to be the first time this feature has been flat-out displayed on a Pixel 6 series phone. It's important to point out that face unlock still doesn't work even if this option is used.
The specifics of when the biometric option will become available remain unknown but this should provide Pixel 6 series owners with hope, especially considering reported issues with the phones' fingerprint readers.
