EDATEC debuts two fanless cases for Raspberry Pi 5
EDATEC has launched two fanless cases for the Raspberry Pi 5: ED-Pi5Case-B and ED-Pi5Case-O. Between these two, the ED-Pi5Case-B has a low-profile design but a closed enclosure. On the other hand, the ED-Pi5Case-O comes with two heatsinks on the top and has an open housing.
Both EDATEC fanless cases for the Raspberry Pi 5 are constructed from aluminum. They are available in black or silver. And even though one has a closed enclosure, both offer quick and easy access to all the ports of the SBC. That includes the MPI connectors, GPIO header, PoE header, and PCIe FPC connector.
As for cooling performance, EDATEC claims that the ED-Pi5Case-B can lower the operating temperature anywhere from 20° C to 25° C. The ED-Pi5Case-O, on the other hand, can reduce the temperature by up to 15° C.
However, the manufacturer didn't specifically say the reference point. Therefore, it's safe to assume that the reference point is the Raspberry Pi 5 without any fan or heatsink.
Other than that, the EDATEC cases for Raspberry Pi 5 have three thermal pads. These cover the wireless module, Broadcom BCM2712 CPU, and PMIC. There's a thermal conductive silicon for the bottom of the SBC too.
Also, the EDATEC ED-Pi5Case-B fanless case features a black plastic window. It is positioned on the top, directly above the wireless module. EDATEC states it's there to make the case benefit "from strong WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity." The ED-Pi5Case-O doesn't have this window, as it features an open design.
Regarding availability, EDATEC is selling the ED-Pi5Case-B for US$18 and ED-Pi5Case-O for US$10 on AliExpress. You can learn more about these fanless cases on the official website.
