Although not a product beyond version 1.0 yet, DuckDuckGo is a quite popular browser among those looking for privacy and security before anything else. Its latest update allows users to sync bookmarks, passwords, and email protection settings between devices without the need to create and use an account.

Privacy-focused web browser DuckDuckGo is currently available in a public beta status for macOS, Windows, as well as Android and iOS mobile devices. Its highlights include the Duck Player, which allows users to view YouTube content while being spared of ads and tracking cookies, an automatic cookie consent tool, and the latest update added the ability to sync data between various devices without the need to use an account.

The new Sync & Backup feature does not sent the data to DuckDuckGo's servers and was designed with privacy and security in mind. The list of items synchronized by this feature consists of bookmarks, passwords, as well as email protection settings.

Trying DuckDuckGo's browser and experiencing the new feature at work is very easy. Once installed, the browser allows its user to import bookmarks and passwords from existing browsers. The data is stored and encrypted locally. The private sync process uses end-to-end encryption and does not require the user of an account or any form of authentication similar to Google, Mozilla, or Microsoft accounts.

The free DuckDuckGo browser uses a QR code or an alphanumeric code to link devices. Those using a single device or more devices should save the sync recovery code in a safe place for later use. With its help, the synced data can be easily restored on any device capable of running the app.

While it was published more than three years ago, Eddie Lance's short guide Why you should use Duckduckgo as your search engine NOW! might help those new to DuckDuckGo understand more about this brand and its goals.
