Doogee N20 Pro Smartphone Review: Android 10 for $120 USD

The Doogee N20 Pro is one of the cheapest Android 10 smartphones in the market at the moment at just $120 to $200 USD. Its specifications are actually quite good on paper including its 19:9 6.3-inch FHD+ display, MediaTek P60 SoC, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB eMMC, and 16 MP rear and front cameras. A longer list of specifications can be found on its product page here. For this review, we'll be testing out some of its features to find out what cut corners lie beneath the attractive price point.

Case
The chassis is almost all plastic as one would expect from an ultra-budget smartphone. As a consequence, however, the Doogee is also a bit lighter than many alternatives including the Wiko View 5 or Honor 10X Lite. Its shorter length contributes to a smaller form factor as well without sacrificing screen size.

Accessories and Warranty
The box includes a manual, SIM pick, MicroUSB cable, protective case, and a European AC adapter. Earbuds are not included.
As with most overseas smartphone, claiming warranty will be difficult as shipping will be slow and buyers may need to pay for the return shipping as well.
Display
The 2280 x 1080 touchscreen is grainier than we would like because the pixels are underneath a thicker layer of glass or plastic. Thus, texts and images do not pop or appear as vibrant as on most other pricier smartphones. Brightness and contrast are otherwise good for the price.

Performance
Raw CPU performance is almost two times better than on the Alcatel 3X, Xiaomi Redmi 9A or Wiko View 5 each with lower-end MediaTek Helio processors according to Geekbench. Graphics performance is even better as our Helio P60 uses a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU instead of PowerVR. Performance is still nowhere near a Snapdragon 865 or Apple A14, but such alternatives are much more expensive.

Temperature
Like most smartphones, the hot spots are near the top half of the smartphone where the motherboard and processor reside. We're able to record a high of almost 40 C when stressed with CPU Throttling Test.
(+) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 39 °C / 102 F, compared to the average of 35.1 °C / 95 F, ranging from 21.9 to 63.7 °C for the class Smartphone.
(±) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 40 °C / 104 F, compared to the average of 33.9 °C / 93 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 27.2 °C / 81 F, compared to the device average of 32.8 °C / 91 F.

Verdict
The Doogee N20 Pro excels in performance, storage, and camera for such an inexpensive Android 10 smartphone. If you value these three attributes the most, then it'll be tough to find another 6-inch alternative that matches or beats the Doogee.
The list of drawbacks, however, are just as important. Firstly, the smartphone is not compatible with most 4G bands in the United States. Secondly, display colors are poorly calibrated for a visual experience that doesn't quite match many pricier mid-range smartphones. Meanwhile, the plastic build may be light, but it doesn't give a sense of longevity or sturdiness. The N20 Pro will still look and feel like a cheap Android smartphone despite its respectable performance and camera.
Strong performance with decent camera and storage space considering the cost. Display and build quality, however, are definitely more representative of its affordable asking price.
