CES 2021 | Dell updates Latitude 7420/7320 & expands the business premium-class with 15.6 inch Dell Latitude 7520
In the past, Dell Latitude laptops of the series 7000 were the creme de la creme of Dell's enterprise portfolio. At this point though, the Latitude 9000 series has assumed that function.
The new models Dell Latitude 7320 and Dell Latitude 7420 and their respective convertible variants are still premium laptops. And their importance in the Dell universe is not decreasing. On the contrary, as Dell is expanding the series with the new Latitude 7520. For the first time, business customers get the option to order the Latitude 7000 series with a 15.6 inch screen.
Dell Latitude 7520: Latitude 7000 now with a big screen
Til now, there was an open spot in Dell's lineup. Between the mid-range Latitude 5510 and the expensive Dell Precision 5550, there was no enterprise model in the 15 inch size. While Lenovo does not make a ThinkPad T15s and there is currently now EliteBook 1050 from HP, the Lenovo ThinkPad T15 and HP EliteBook 855 were still more up-market models than the Latitude 5000. This hole is now filled by the new Dell Latitude 7520.
Latitude 7000 2021: low power screens with higher brightness, but smaller batteries
The new models of the Latitude 7000 series look a lot like their 2020 predecessors, but they are still redesigns. The updates are not as big as the new Dell Latitude 5x20, but there are some parallel developments. The maximum battery capacity decreases here as well, going down from 68 to 63 Wh. For that trade-off, the new models are slightly thinner, lighter and more compact than their predecessors.
Of course, the new Latitude 7320, Latitude 7420 and Latitude 7520 contain Intel Tiger Lake processors. These CPUs are combined with up to 32 GB on-board memory. There are no dedicated GPUs and Dell did not announce any AMD Ryzen versions, either.
Like for the less expensive Latitude 5000, Dell will offer brighter screens in the new Latitude 7000 laptops. The optional low power LCDs now deliver 400 instead of 300 cd/m². It should be noted though that the screens are still in the 16:9 aspect-ratio. The 16:10 format stays exclusive for the Dell Latitude 9420 for the time being.
Dell Latitude 7000: pricing & availability
The new Dell laptops are supposed to be available in March. Dell did not disclose a starting price at this point.
