Last year, Dell introduced curved UltraSharp 34 curved and UltraSharp 40 curved monitors. This year's CES sees new UltraSharp 27 and UltraSharp 34 4K monitors featuring the world's first enhanced IPS Black technology.
IPS displays have traditionally suffered limitations with respect to the contrast ratio that doesn't typically go above 1,000:1. IPS Black technology helps IPS panels achieve a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, which puts them in VA territory. This should lend itself to deeper blacks and a more immersive viewing experience.
Dell feels that the UltraSharp brand has good momentum and is quite popular, so it doesn't want to disturb the status quo by changing the nomenclature. Both the UltraSharp 27 4K and the UltraSharp 32 4K Thunderbolt Hub monitors sport low-reflectance panels that supposedly offer 89% ambient contrast improvement.
The monitors have a high 120 Hz refresh rate and are rated to cover 99% of DCI-P3/Display P3 color spaces together with 100% sRGB, all while maintaining very good color accuracy with Delta E < 2. An ambient light sensor helps changing brightness and color temperature to match surrounding conditions.
Dell has equipped the UltraSharp 27 4K and UltraSharp 32 4K with a Thunderbolt 4 hub that offers 140 W Extended Power Range (EPR) with a single cable. The hub offers 2.5G LAN, daisy chaining with other 4K monitors, and a pop-out 15 W USB port for charging.
The Dell UltraSharp 27 4K (U27255QE) and the UltraSharp 32 4K (U3225QE) will be available from February 2025 for $699.99 and $949.99, respectively.
