The Dell Latitude 12 7202 might have an old processor, but a deep discount scheme combined with a plethora of accessories and parts mean that this rugged tablet is well and truly a bargain.

There’s no doubting that the Dell Latitude Rugged Tablet 12 is built to survive environments that could seriously damage other tablets. This is all the more laudable as Dell has still managed to squeeze in many of the comparatively niche software and hardware features that field workers in vertical industries expect and need.

The Dell Latitude 12 Rugged is a beast of a tablet that's fully fit for the outdoors and treacherous conditions. It packs solid performance in a shock- and dust-proof body, and with two hot-swappable batteries, its one of the longest-lasting rugged tablets we've tested. The Getac F110 remains our Editors' Choice rugged tablet, as it is lighter to carry around, has more secure port covers, and costs almost $300 less than the Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet. But if you are in need of a tough tablet that will last all day and has strong multimedia capabilities, the Latitude 12 Rugged Tablet is an excellent choice. Just be sure to carry a big bag.

The Latitude 12, with its hot-swappable, dual two-cell batteries, can survive for a relatively long amount of time in the field. It lasted 7 hours and 55 minutes on the Laptop Mag Battery Test (continuous Web surfing over Wi-Fi). By opting to buy an additional battery, you can extend its battery life by swapping in freshly charged units.

Specialized systems generally excel at what they were built for while sacrificing in other areas. In this case, Dell's Latitude 12 Rugged is a burly 2-in-1 that is built to withstand the rigors of Mother Nature while out on the job site, though its toughness doesn't come at the expense of performance. It fared very well compared to systems with similar specs, racking up first place finishes in Cinebench, PCMark 8, and 3DMark.

The Dell Latitude 7212 Rugged Extreme Tablet definitely isn’t a device for the average consumer. For the target market of professionals who work in more extreme conditions that may experience above or below-normal operating temperatures or weather conditions, the Latitude 7212 is definitely a solid, rugged choice for getting the job done. With the optional accessories, it can function as a laptop, be mounted or docked in various ways, and offer extended battery life, serving a number of different requirements and work conditions.

The Dell Latitude 7212 is a well-designed, tough detachable Windows tablet that can take pretty much anything you (and nature) can throw at it. And compared with the rugged competition it's a relative bargain.

The Dell Latitude 7212 Rugged Extreme Tablet is an excellent choice for businesses and government agencies that need a laptop with this kind of durability. If you're an architect who needs to bring a tablet to construction sites or a police officer who needs a device to take on the beat, for example, you'll really benefit from the Latitude's ability to survive drops that would destroy a regular tablet.

Lisa Gade reviews the Dell Latitude 7220 Rugged Extreme tablet, an 11.6” Windows tablet with detachable keyboard that’s designed to take a beating and a spray of water without failing. It also handles high heat thanks to robust cooling and it has a 1,000 nit matte display with polarizer for outdoor viewing. The tablet has a touch screen and supports the $60 Dell Active rugged pen that uses N-Trig technology like Surface Pro. The Dell has Intel quad core CPUs, an NVMe M.2 SSD, Wi-Fi 6, optional 4G LTE, USB-C and a variety of biometrics and security features. Like the Panasonic Toughbook and Symbol computers, it’s designed for vertical market use, from service technicians to oil and gas workers and the military.

Should the apocalypse come to pass, the road warrior driving along the desolate roads of the future will likely shrug off fragile semblances of technology like most current day smartphones and slates made of glass and metal. Max Rockotansky will likely be toting the absurdly durable Dell Latitude 7220 Rugged Extreme slate.

Dell: Dell is a U.S. manufacturer (based in Texas) of computer hardware founded in 1984 and is one of the largest international manufacturers in terms of both market share and notebook models. Its product line includes desktops, notebooks, storage systems, monitors, servers, printers, consumer electronics and peripherals. Dell offers laptops that are suitable for various applications, such as business laptops, gaming laptops, ultra portables and workstations. Dell's business laptops from the Latitude and Precision series are an option for professional users and businesses.
In 2023, Dell had an approximate 17% market share of global PC sales, ranking #3 after Lenovo and HP.
For gaming enthusiasts, Dell's Alienware brand is for gaming notebooks.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
Intel HD Graphics 5300: Integrated graphics card (GT2) in Core M processors from the Broadwell Y-series (4.5 W TDP).
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel HD Graphics 520: Integrated GPU (GT2) with 24 EUs found on some Skylake CPU models (15 W ULV series).
Intel HD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2) found on some Kaby-Lake CPU models (15 W ULV series).
Intel UHD Graphics 620: Integrated GPU (GT2, 24 EUs) found on some Kaby-Lake-Refresh CPU models (15 W ULV series). Technically identical to the previous Kaby-Lake GPU called HD Graphics 620.

Intel Core M:
5Y71: Broadwell-based ULV dual-core processor for tablets and 2-in-1 notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 5300 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
6600U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
Intel Kaby Lake:
i5-7300U: Kaby-Lake based SoC with two CPU cores clocked at 2.5 to 3.1 GHz, HyperThreading and manufactured with an improved 14nm process. Compared to the older Core i7-7500U, the i5 offers only 3 MB L3 cache but the same Turbo clock speed.
Intel Core i3:
i3-8145U: Whiskey Lake based low power dual-core processor (technically identical to Kaby Lake but produced in a further improved 14nm++ process). The two cores are clocked between 2.1 and 3.9 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading.
