Data Frog R36S: New Rockchip RK3326 retro gaming handheld now available for under US$35
Data Frog has released another Rockchip RK3326-based gaming handheld, of which there are now many, including the Powkiddy RGB20S. To recap, the Rockchip RK3326 combines four ARM Cortex-A35 CPU cores with a Mali-G31 GPU. In short, the Rockchip RK3326 is powerful enough to handle up to Dreamcast and N64 generation games with slowdowns in some titles.
Additionally, Data Frog includes 1 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 3.5-inch IPS display that outputs at 640 x 480 pixels with a 4:3 aspect ratio. For some reason, Data Frog states that the R36S has a 3,200 mAh battery. However, Retro Game Corps identified a 3,500 mAh battery in its unit that achieved about 4 hours of gameplay between charges.
At any rate, the R36S also has the same gamepad buttons as the RGB20S, albeit with its joysticks positioned at the bottom rather than beneath its display. Currently, the R36S is available in black transparent, purple transparent, and white finishes for under US$35 on AliExpress. In other words, the R36S is roughly half the price of the RGB20S while retaining the same features. Retro Game Corps notes that the handheld is compatible with ArkOS, a popular OS for retro gaming handhelds.
