Cybertruck gets free FSD transfer offer as its promised 500-mile range becomes a pipe dream
Tesla's Cybertruck has now become eligible for the free FSD transfer deal that the automaker extended into Q4 as well.
Thus, those Model Y or Model 3 owners who'd like to try Tesla's most oddball vehicle will have a chance to also bring the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) option with them to the electric pickup, which got FSD support just last month.
It looked like peer pressure made Elon Musk prolong the free FSD transfer deal with another quarter during his keynote presentation at the annual shareholder event. The offer was then extended into Q4, making 2024 the first full year when FSD transfers were available throughout the four quarters. It remains to be seen if the deal will stay for Q1 as well, making it a permanent fixture in Tesla's arsenal of incentives.
In another, not-so-good piece of Cybertruck news, Tesla has turned its promised 500-mile range into a pipe dream. Previous calculations pegged it achievable with a certain set of tires and the 50 kWh range extender accessory that used to add 130 miles to the distance that the Cybertruck could cover on a charge.
Now, however, Tesla has delayed its launch to mid-2025, and has shortened the range on a charge achievable with the extender to 445 miles for the AWD version, and 440 miles for the tri-motor Cyberbeast.
Tesla's former battery head Drew Baglino once said that they are striving for 500-mile range with the extender, but that push obviously isn't panning out just yet.
