Cyberpunk 2077 has received yet another major update
CD Projekt Red has announced a substantial new update for Cyberpunk 2077, introducing dual-wielding, cross-platform mod support, new quests and extensive cosmetic customisation. Update 2.5 launches on 22 October and also brings performance improvements.

It seems like CD Projekt Red is not quite done with Cyberpunk 2077 just yet. Shortly after giving The Witcher 3 a second makeover, the studio revealed the patch notes for Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5, officially dubbed the Edgerunners 2 Update. It celebrates the arrival of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix, where all ten episodes of the standalone anime premiered on October 20.

One of the biggest additions is the ability to dual-wield weapons, a feature players have requested for years. A new perk called Double Trouble, located in the Cool skill tree, allows V to equip two Power pistols or revolvers simultaneously. Four additional perks complement the new combat mechanic. Cyberware customisation has also been overhauled, with five new Glamdoc locations offering unique cosmetic upgrades for Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and the Projectile Launch System.

Cross-platform mod support is now possible via mod.io, as foretold by an earlier leak. Players can now browse and install a selection of community-created mods directly through the game's interface. The feature is supported on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S, with more mods expected to become available over time. Unfortunately, console players cannot earn achievements and trophies while playing on a modded save.

The update also includes two new side quests. Clampdown serves as a prequel to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 and rewards players with a five-piece gear set inspired by King, one of the anime's characters. Meanwhile, Welcome to Paradise offers a guided tour of Night City narrated by Richard Night. Players can also discover 12 new Minor Arcana tarot cards, unlock additional hairstyles and outfits, and listen to a new radio station featuring music from the Edgerunners series.

On the technical front, Update 2.5 adds support for Nvidia DLSS 4.5, including up to 6X Multi Frame Generation and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. AMD FSR options have also been revised, with FSR 3 upscaling removed while FSR 2.1, FSR 4 and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation remain available. Other additions include an FOV slider for consoles, improved HDR rendering, ray tracing optimisations and performance improvements for PlayStation 5 Pro. Compatible Samsung Odyssey 3D monitors also gain glasses-free 3D support.

Lastly, CD Projekt Red has introduced several quality-of-life changes, including save files grouped by individual playthroughs, inventory filters for stashes and additional Photo Mode options. The new Cyberpunk 2077 update arrives on October 22 for PC, Mac (Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac App Store users will receive the update a few days later. Despite being over five years old, Cyberpunk 2077 is getting another substantial batch of gameplay features and technical improvements.
