More and more OEMs are rushing to launch laptops powered by the AMD Ryzen 4000 APUs, but we are also starting to see a similar trend with custom builders. CyberPowerPC, for example, is now offering 15.6-inch and 17.3-inch Ryzen 4000 laptops with the new Tracer IV R series for around US$1,000, as recommended by AMD. However, unlike the Taiwaneze OEMs who tend to include poor displays in order to keep prices under US$1,000, CyberPowerPC is actually offering quality displays for a small price bump, and, of course, users can further customize the systems. The great thing about this new Tracer IV R series is that the price difference between the 15-inch and the 17-inch default configurations is minimal (ranges between US$5-20 depending on configuration).
The 15.6-inch models come in a slimmer chassis (hence the SLIM denomination) weighing 3.96 lbs, while the 17.3-inch models dubbed XTREME are a bit bulkier yet still portable enough, weighing in at 5.5 lbs. Both versions come with similar base configurations that allow users to choose between Ryzen 5 4600H APUs coupled with the GTX 1650 Ti GPU or the more powerful Ryzen 7 4800H APUs coupled with the RTX 2060 Max-P GPUs.
Other specs that are basically identical for both versions include:
- 1080p IPS screen with 300 nit brightness and 144 Hz refresh rate
- Up to 32 GB DDR4-2666 RAM
- Up to 4 TB PCIe NVMe SSD storage
- 720p IR webcam
- Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth 5
- THX Spatial Audio
- Port selection: 1x USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, 2x USB-A 3.1 Gen 1, 1x USB-A 2.0, HDMI 2.0 video out, GbE jack, audio out + mic in combo, microSD card reader
- Up to 10 h battery life
Price points start at US$899 for the standard 15.6-inch SLIM version packing the Ryzen 5 4600H + GTX 1650 Ti + 8 GB RAM + 250 GB storage, and go up to US$1,245 for the Ryzen 7 4800H + RTX 2060 + 16 GB RAM + 1 TB SSD storage configuration. As mentioned, the prices for the 17.3-inch variants are almost the same, as the XTREME Ryzen 5 4600H starter configuration costs US$925, while the Ryzen 7 4800H one is priced at US$1,255.
