Cooler Master's Orb X pod aims to deliver the ultimate in immersive gaming experiences
Cooler Master has officially taken the covers off its Orb X gaming pod, however pricing and availability is yet to be revealed. Although it is clearly targeted at gamers first, the company is also doing its best to try to lever its way into the WFH (work from home) phenomenon, by calling it a ‘multi-purpose workstation for gamers and professionals’. While there is no doubt that it would also make a great WFH pod, it’s clear to see the company is doing its best to help gamers try to justify what is bound to be an exorbitant purchase for the home.
The Orb X features a semi-enclosed cockpit. Getting into simply requires touch to activate the automatic shuttle dome which lifts to help allow easy entry for the occupant and closing again once seated. The luxurious chair offers 6-positional settings with the user’s head supported by an ergonomically optimal headrest.
The screen mount offers support for anything up to a single 49-inch monitor (think something like the wraparound Samsung Odyssey G9) or up to three 27-inch monitors in combination. Perhaps surprising, it only offers 2.1 channel sound, although this has support for spatial audio which emulates a surround sound effect. The rear of the Orb X includes a built-in sliding tray for plugging in either a PC gaming rig or a console.
Prepare for your eyes to water when the price is officially announced in the coming weeks. This is only likely to be matched by similarly sky-high prices for shipping it. Still, the Orb X looks like it will offer an incredible experience.
