Commodore unveils Cyberpunk 2077-branded C64 with upgraded FPGA chip

Commodore has announced the Commodore 77, a special edition of the Commodore 64 Ultimate made in collaboration with CD Projekt Red and themed around Cyberpunk 2077. Commodore calls it the first franchise hardware partnership in the company's 68-year history.

The Commodore 77 keeps the FPGA-based architecture of the standard C64 Ultimate but swaps the older AMD Xilinx Artix-7 XC7A50T for the more powerful XC7A100T, roughly doubling the number of available logic cells. Commodore says the unit is compatible with over 99.9% of the more than 10,000 existing Commodore 64 games and peripherals.

Design changes include a metal plate insert, a turquoise glow, and graffiti-style tags on the case, along with a smoked translucent base with LEDs and a custom neon power light. The bundle adds stickers, pins, collectible packaging, and a spiral-bound, Cyberpunk-themed user guide with exclusive type-in BASIC programs.

The unit ships with an original noninteractive demo built by Polish demo group Arise, with an original soundtrack by chiptune artist LukHash. Taking advantage of the Ultimate lineup's enhanced hardware, the demo features 24 channels of stereo SID chip music and runs from a 2 MB cartridge. The demo is delivered on an exclusive cartridge designed to resemble the "shards" from Cyberpunk 2077.

The Commodore 77 is available for preorder now at commodore.net for $377, with Batch 2 expected to ship in February 2027.
