Clockwork Revolution drops in 2027

Xbox Game Studios and inXile Entertainment have confirmed that Clockwork Revolution will launch in 2027 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The news came at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026, alongside a new four-minute trailer for the first-person action RPG, which is built on Unreal Engine 5. No exact release date has been announced.
Xbox exclusive with day-one Game Pass
Xbox says Clockwork Revolution will be Xbox console exclusive and that they are not timed exclusives, so no PlayStation 5 version is planned. As a first-party release, the game will be included with Game Pass on day one, including on PC. It is also an Xbox Play Anywhere title, which means one purchase covers both console and PC. On PC, the game will be available through Steam and the Microsoft Store.
Rewriting the history of Avalon
The story is set in Avalon, a Victorian-era steampunk metropolis where steam trains fly overhead and wealthy citizens replace their limbs with clockwork prosthetics. You play Morgan Vanette, a customizable member of the Rotten Row Hooligans gang from the Tangle, the city’s slums. Morgan’s look, skills, and choices can all be shaped over the course of the game. The ruler, Lady Ironwood, has been using time travel to reshape the past and keep her grip on power.
Your main tool is the Chronometer, a time-travel device tied to Prentice, a flying automaton companion. Going back to change key moments sends ripples into the present that alter characters, districts, and the city itself. Studio head Brian Fargo said the team had written 750,000 words of dialogue as of August 2025, and in-game reports and conversations shift depending on how you build your character.
Combat and development
Combat blends first-person gunplay with time abilities. Weapons include revolvers, lever-action repeaters, and modified Gatling guns alongside steam-powered gadgets, while time powers can freeze enemies, rewind events, and even pull fired bullets back into the gun. Weapon customization and crafting sit alongside the wider RPG systems.
Game director Chad Moore leads the project, with Fargo as producer. inXile is also working with Shapeshifter Games, a co-development studio founded by former Volition developers, a partnership announced in January 2024. Fargo has called Clockwork Revolution the studio’s most ambitious game, “probably by a factor of 10.”
