Until Dawn 2 launches next January on PS5, pre-orders now open

Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that Until Dawn 2 will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027. Firesprite creative director Stu Tilley shared the date in a September 3 PlayStation Blog post alongside a new pre-order trailer. Firesprite is developing the standalone sequel, while AdHoc Studio, the team behind Dispatch, helped craft the story.

Akishima Island and the Dead True crew

The sequel trades the snowy mountains of the original for Akishima Island, a tropical location in the South Pacific. Players follow Dead True, a team of ghost-hunting YouTubers whose scares are mostly staged for their online audience. After signing a deal with a big TV network, the crew heads to the abandoned island to film its first fully funded episode. The staged frights soon give way to real horrors tied to secrets that are centuries old and hungry for vengeance.

Butterfly Effect and cast

The Butterfly Effect system returns, and Firesprite says relationships within the crew matter more than ever. Everyone can live, and everyone can die, depending on the choices you make. Eight members of Dead True are playable, including Dacre Montgomery as Owen, Gavin Leatherwood as Luke, and Tanner Buchanan as Cameron. Neil Newbon also appears as Sebastian. Peter Stormare reprises Dr. Hill, who is the only returning character from the first game. Until Dawn 2 is a single-player experience with no multiplayer.

Pre-orders and editions

Pre-orders for the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions opened on September 10 on the PlayStation Store. In the US, the Standard Edition costs $49.99, and the Digital Deluxe Edition costs $59.99. Pre-ordering either edition unlocks two Dr. Hill costumes, a classic Until Dawn outfit and an Akishima Island outfit, plus bobblehead collectibles to find in-game. 

The Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Y2K Neon Vibes Pack, which dresses all eight playable characters in neon costumes, and Dioramas of Death, a gallery that lets you revisit each death. The game is enhanced for PS5 Pro, with PSSR2 upscaling and advanced ray tracing, and it carries an ESRB Mature 17+ rating for blood and gore, intense violence, sexual themes, strong language, and drug use. No PC version has been announced, and Sony lists the game as exclusive to PS5.
