Citroën e-C3 coming to disrupt budget EV market with €25,000 launch price in 2024 despite underwhelming range figures
Speaking to Bloomberg, Citroën's CEO has revealed that the company will introduce the €25,000 (~US$27,413) e-C3 to the European market in 2024, giving middle-class families an electric vehicle option. The new e-C3 will be manufactured in Slovakia, as opposed to the other affordable competition that mostly hails from China.
A suspiciously similar vehicle has already launched in India under the name Ë-C3, featuring 320 km (200 miles) of range and 57 hp from a 29.2-kWh battery pack and a single motor mounted to the front axle. The brand's CEO emphasised the importance of Citroën returning to its roots of making affordable vehicles.
Citroën has a history of making affordable cars and it’s role now is to make electric mobility accessible to all. There is no equivalent to this car today. —Thierry Koskas
While it doesn't appear as if the Citroën e-C3 will launch in the US market, Citroën is planning on replacing its larger C5 SUV with an electric vehicle currently in development under the CR3 project name. With up-front cost for electric vehicles acting as a barrier to entry for many, and the ballooning size of US vehicles causing concerns about road damage, it would be refreshing to see a brand like Citroën introduce an affordable, practical electric vehicle to the US market.
