Citizen unveils two stylish Eco-Drive Peyten watches powered by light

Following a recent slew of new releases, Citizen has once again added two new models to its Peyten collection, giving wearers a compact analog watch that theoretically provides unlimited battery life. The EM1230-54X and EM1234-53L both utilize Citizen's Eco-Drive system, which hides a rechargeable solar cell beneath the dial that captures sunlight and indoor lighting alike, keeping the watch running indefinitely with regular light exposure. According to user reviews, Eco-Drive appears to be a reliably proven piece of technology that works exceptionally well.
 

Both models share a compact 30mm case, a traditional three-hand layout, and a fold-over clasp fitted with push buttons for a secure fit. Both also use a mineral crystal for the display, which is a little less scratch resistant than the sapphire crystal found on some of Citizen's pricier lines. This is undoubtedly due to reasons of cost, given that these are entry-level Eco-Drive watches.

50-meter water resistance is also on board, making it suitable for swimming but not diving or other high-pressure activities. Where the two models diverge is finish: the EM1230-54X pairs a silver-tone stainless steel case and bracelet with a purple dial, while the latter swaps in a two-tone stainless steel build and a blue dial, giving buyers a choice between two distinct looks built on identical hardware.
 

Both watches are currently available in the US and the UK. The EM1230-54X is priced at $395/£249, while the two-tone EM1234-53L costs $450/£269. The 54X is also currently available in Canada for CA$495, but the not the latter. Although there is no official confirmation that the newly announced models will launch in other markets, Citizen often introduces new watches in the aforementioned markets first before expanding availability, so additional regional launches may well follow later.
