ChatGPT search was recently announced. It acts as a search engine allowing the users to get their queries answered with links to relevant web sources. The news search model uses a fine-tuned version of GPT-4o, enabling it to keep track of the conversation and deliver context-aware responses to user queries.
According to the news source WindowsLatest, the search results produced by ChatGPT search are identical to those of Bing. For example, upon searching for wallpapers for Windows 11, ChatGPT search presented images that were linked to Microsoft’s Bing resources.
The source also found a pattern with the working of ChatGPT search and Bing. ChatGPT search and Bing displayed similar web sources, though with different website rankings.
Microsoft is a multi-billion dollar investor in OpenAI. Hence, it will not be a surprise if ChatGPT search relies on Microsoft’s Bing search engine.
OpenAI has confirmed that the search model uses third-party search providers to generate answers. However, the company has not shared the exact extent to which third-party search providers contribute.
