Accessory manufacturer Nimble has unveiled four new trackers that, unlike the Apple AirTag, do not use a connectional coin cell battery but are powered by a cellulose-based battery instead. This allows the trackers to be charged wirelessly, they are also biodegradable once the end of their service life arrives.

At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, Nimble has unveiled four new alternatives to the Apple AirTag, which currently retails for $24 on Amazon. All of them rely on the same technology but come in different designs. These range from a keychain tracker that closely matches the AirTag form factor, to a luggage tag and passport holder, and even a wallet that only holds cards and does not sport a coin compartment.

The trackers support both Apple’s "Find My" network and Google’s Find Hub, depending on whether they are set up with an Apple iPhone or Android smartphone. Either way, what makes these trackers particularly interesting is the built-in battery. It can be charged wirelessly on a Qi charging pad, but it’s also a brand-new cellulose-based battery. This so-called "paper battery" has been developed by Flint Labs and is already in mass production.

The battery looks like a standard coin cell but with a thickness of just under 0.04 inches, it’s extremely thin. By comparison, the CR2032 coin cell used in an Apple AirTag is 0.13 inches thick. This cellulose-based battery is supposedly more environmentally friendly than conventional lithium-based batteries. Flint Labs even claims that the batteries are biodegradable, but does not provide details on their exact materials.

Details on the longevity or overall lifespan of these batteries in Nimble’s new trackers have not been revealed either. Nimble has not confirmed when the four new trackers based on batteries from Flint Labs will launch, the official price is also up in the air.
