While the latest release of CachyOS, labeled 250824 and released yesterday, comes with quite a few changes worthy of attention, it also arrived alongside a new service, namely the packages.cachyos.org dashboard. Its purpose is to provide an in-depth overview of the current versions of all packages used in this Arch-based distro with a focus on gaming performance. Each package has the PKGBUILD source clearly shown, and the list of packages can be sorted based on architecture, repository, package name, update time, and more. Both desktop and handheld editions of this distro have been updated.
Due to the recent reports of issues caused by the latest stable kernel, CachyOS is now coming with the linux-cachyos-lts kernel out of the box as a fallback. Additionally, the ISO installation medium is now using the LTS kernel instead of the latest stable build, as was the case previously. The Niri window manager is now a new desktop option available via the online installer.
In addition to the above, CachyOS 250824 also comes with automatically enabled bootable snapshots in GRUB with Btrfs, similar to the behavior already provided when using Limine. Nvidia GPU users now get S0ix sleep on supported hardware, but there are many other under-the-hood improvements that make this new CachyOS release faster and more stable than its predecessor.
