Walmart is currently selling the MSI Katana 15 HX for $1,099, a steep 27% decrease from its original price. What's more, buyers will also get a copy of Battlefield 6 with their purchase, a game that retails for $70. The gaming notebook has a 15.6-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2,560 × 1,440, a 165 Hz refresh rate, and 100% DCI-P3 coverage.
Inside, there's an Intel Core i7-14650HX packing eight P-cores boosting up to 5.2 GHz and eight E-cores running at up to 3.7 GHz, joined by 16 GB of DDR5-5600 memory and a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. Being primarily aimed at gamers, the machine also comes with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 8 GB of GDDR7 VRAM.
Connectivity comprises one 10 Gbps USB-C port (DisplayPort Alt Mode, 100 W Power Delivery), three further 10 Gbps USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, Gigabit Ethernet, and a 3.5 mm audio combo jack. Complementing all this is an Intel AX211 wireless card with Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support.
The laptop measures 14.13 × 10.31 × 0.99 inches (359 × 262 × 25 mm) and tips the scales at 5.29 lb (2.4 kg), while packing a 75 Wh battery capable of charging at up to 240 W through the DC-in connector. Other features include a 4-zone RGB keyboard with n-key rollover and a 720p webcam (NexiGo 1,080p webcam curr. $24.99 on Amazon).
Chief among the drawbacks of the notebook is the RTX 5070 Laptop being equipped with a paltry 8 GB of VRAM, which we've found can be an issue in some current titles, never mind future releases.
