Cable Matters offers up desk mount for new Microsoft Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock
Cable Matters and Microsoft have partnered to release a desk mount for the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock, an accessory to an accessory. To recap, the new Surface Dock ditches the Surface Connect port for Thunderbolt 4 connectivity for non-Surface compatibility. However, while the new Surface Dock contains several improvements over the Surface Dock 2, there are a few omissions to be aware of.
As Cable Matters' marketing images show, the desk mount attaches to the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock via a screw hole on the dock's underside. Presumably, it would be simpler to attach the dock and desk mount without securing the latter to a desk beforehand, although Cable Matters has not demonstrated a preferred installation method. Regardless, the desk mount is compatible with desks that are between 0.75 and 2.25-inches thick. Seemingly, Cable Matters has included some padding to prevent the desk mount from damaging a desk.
The desk mount should be easy enough to secure to a desk too, with Cable Matters including a simple thumb screw. In short, the desk mount should allow you to add or remove a cable with one hand, as well as keeping the dock in one place. Currently, the Cable Matters Desk Mount for Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock from the manufacturer's website or on Amazon for US$29.99. At the time of writing, Amazon reports that the desk mount will start shipping next week. Please see Cable Matters' website for more details.
